Dave Pearce presents 30 years of classic dance anthems from electro to techno via hardcore and house alongside future big room club tunes. This week Dave is joined by DJ Pete Wardman to look back at two decades of the infamous Trade club night. The first ever legal all night party in the UK, Trade started at Turnmills in London in 1990, before spreading out to Bristol, Cardiff, Ibiza and beyond. The club became famous for DJs like Tall Paul playing cutting edge underground dance music, and hosting some of the most hedonistic parties the UK club scene ever saw. It was also famous for its door policy “You don’t have to be gay or a member to get in, but your attitude and look will count”, and played an important role in gay nightlife throughout the 1990s. Pete Wardman – one of Trade’s residents – joins Dave to share his memories of the club and picks five seminal tunes from its history. In the last 30 minutes there’s an archive mix from one of Trade’s most famous residents – Tony De Vit – recorded for BBC Radio 1 in 1995.

Dave returns with more classic dance anthems from the Shamen, Turntable Orchestra and Bizarre Inc as well as delving into the output of City Beat Recordings. In the second hour of the show Dave is joined by Sarah HB to look back at the house music scene in Chicago and New York in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Sarah discusses her time with legendary DJs Larry Heard and Larry Levan, reminences about the Paradise Garage and plays classic tracks from the Peech Boys, Fingers Inc and R-Tyme. There’s also a brand new 30 minute guest mix from Sarah featuring new music from Dennis Ferrer and Ultra Nate.

On this week’s show there’s another featured record label profile, brand new unsigned music and in the last half hour a guest mix from old skool ravers Shades of Rhythm. Best known for their hits ‘Sound Of Eden’ and ‘Extacy’ which conquered the charts in the early 1990s, Shades of Rhythm were one of the stalwarts of the rave scene. Hailing from Peterborough, the band soon built up a reputation as a formidable live act and headlined every major party of the era including Fantazia, Raindance, Sunrise and Amnesia. They later signed to Trevor Horn’s ZTT Records and have been remixed by X-Press 2 and Joey Negro. As the band prepare to reissue their debut album 20 years on, they go in the mix for Dave, playing a selection of old-skool classics.

Dave Pearce presents 30 years of classic dance anthems from rave to ragga via breakbeat and big room, recounting the stories behind those pivotal club tunes. There a selection of your requests and your clubbing nostalgia, plus future anthems from Alex Gaudino and Duck Sauce. In the final 30 minutes, Dave raids the BBC archive to play out another classic mix from years gone by.
