Detroit techno don, Kevin Saunderson takes over the 6 Mix for two hours of musical inspirations and current club favourites.
Alongside Juan Atkins and Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson is widely regarded as one of the originators of Detroit techno. The trio, known as The Belleville Three, met in high school and quickly developed a love for electronic music, which developed in to making their own productions. In 1987, Saunderson ended up “accidently collaborating” with Paris Grey and, in turn, the group Inner City was born, creating worldwide hits such as Big Fun and Good Life.
Alongside running his label KMS, Saunderson is still very active on the DJ circuit and with productions; during this programme you can hear the new Inner City track Future, alongside tracks that have influenced him musically and some of his current dancefloor favourites.

Tracklist no available …

Dave Pearce meets DJ, label boss and artist, Goldie, who talks about his life in dance music.
Goldie was introduced to drum & bass and jungle by DJ Kemistry and production duo 4hero back in 1991 and went on to work for their Reinforced record label. Fast forward four years and his seminal 1995 debut album, Timeless (signed to Pete Tong’s FFRR label) went straight to number 7 in the album charts. It became a groundbreaking release in the dance genre and spawned the iconic track Inner City Life.
In this special 6 Mix programme, Goldie talks to Dave Pearce about the music that has inspired his career and his own releases. He also talks about his graffiti projects in late 1980s New York, and his experience founding one of the biggest jungle and drum & bass labels, Metalheadz.

Orlando Higginbottom, aka Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs [T.E.E.D], brings his brand of lush electronica to the 6 Mix.
It’s been a busy year for the music maker, who hails from Oxford. He recently travelled to the Congo in Africa as one of the producers collaborating with Damon Albarn on his DRC Music project and his debut single, Trouble, appeared in July.
Aside from his current releases and remixes for the likes of Joe Goddard and Friendly Fires, Orlando is well known for his live shows where he often dresses up in a dinosaur costume.
Hotly tipped for 2012, and ahead of his debut album release early next year, Orlando takes over the 6 Mix for two hours of analogue tinged electro.

Nerm returns to the 6 Mix playing the alternative side of electronic and dance music. As head of East London’s Shiva Soundsystem, Nerm has DJed all over the world, from touring India to playing major festivals including Glastonbury. He’s also been a resident at Ministry of Sound in Birmingham, fronted an electro punk band and has the distinction of being the only person to play Marilyn Manson on the BBC Asian Network.
A lifelong Prince fan, Nerm cites the purple one as the inspiration for sending him on his journey intro cross genre alternative music. He’s currently producing his own material and consulting on film soundtracks for Kidulthood director Menhaj Huda. In his second 6 Mix Nerm plays an eclectic selection of genre spanning music, from drum ‘n’ bass to metal, via electro and dubstep.

One of Britain’s best loved DJs, Andrew has been busy touring the world with Primal Scream celebrating the twentieth anniversary of their seminal album Screamadelica. He has also been remixing the likes of Toddla T and Death In Vegas whose frontman, Richard Fearless, joins him on a two hour journey of sonic wonders.
The band, which was formed in 1994 by Fearless and Steve Hellier, released their 5th studio album, Trans-Love Energies this year. In this programme Richard plays the music that has inspired him, past and present, from the dubby delights of King Tubby to Throbbing Gristle.

6 Mix explores the world of future house with mixes from two artists that are pushing the boundaries, Azari & III and Nicolas Jaar.
In the first hour Toronto quartet Azari & III take over the programme to bring their unique blend of eerie melodies and throbbing grooves to the 6 Mix. The foursome have received notoriety after the release of their early singles, Reckless (With Your Love) and Hungry For The Power, coupled with a Friendly Fires collaboration and remixes for Robyn, Cut Copy and Booka Shade. Here they play a collection of music that has shaped their sound, past and present.
The second hour comes from New York based producer Nicolas Jaar. The young artist, who spent most of his childhood growing up in Chile, released his debut EP at the age of 17 on the renowned Wolf & Lamb label. After that, a series of singles followed including material on his own imprint and he was feted in the independent press after the release of his first album Space Is Only Noise earlier this year. Here Jaar plays the music that has influenced his sonically diverse offerings.

Erol Alkan returns to the 6 Mix, taking you on a sonic journey through bleeps, beats and bass from the cutting edge of club culture.
A much loved and respected figure on the UK electronic music circuit, Erol’s early noughties club night Trash was recently named number 43 in the Guardian’s 50 Key Events In the History Of Dance Music supplement. This summer he’s been busy playing festivals all over the world from Glastonbury to Bestival, as well as catching everyone’s ears with his rework of Metronomy’s summer anthem, The Bay.
He’s also collaborated with 6 Music’s very own Jarvis Cocker and Boys Noize on a track called Avalanche, using the lyrics to Leonard Cohen’s Terminal Velocity, which saw Jarvis and Erol both playing at London’s Fabric nightclub in September. In his latest 6 Mix, Erol delves into the crates to unearth a selection of hidden gems alongside a selection of upfront electronic and experimental sounds from inside and outside the club.
In the final 30 minutes, Erol’s Mystery Mix returns, with a secret selection of future floorfillers which could well be the soundtrack to 2012′s festival season.

Tracklist soon …

Pioneering producer DJ Shadow takes control of the 6 Mix, talking and playing the music which inspired his seminal debut LP Endtroducing and his brand new album.
Raised in California, Shadow – AKA Josh Davis – started his career as a college radio DJ in the early 90s but soon started experimenting with making sample based electronic music, which found its way into the hands of British DJ, hip hop aficionado and founder of the Mo’ Wax label, James Lavelle. A remix of Massive Attack’s Karmacoma got people talking, but it was the release of his 1996 album Endtroducing – the first ever LP to be wholly constructed out of samples – which made Davis’ name.
In this special 6 Mix, Shadow plays the music which inspired Endtroducing, on the 15th anniversary of its release. He talks about how music by De La Soul, Afrika Baambataa, Peshay and Debbie Harry amongst others informed its sound.
There’s also a chance to hear what inspired the production on his new album – The Less You Know, The Better -including tracks by Little Dragon and the Weekend.
