DJ Jazzy Jeff
A Touch of Jazz, Philadelphia

“Jazzy” Jeff Townes was born in West Philadelphia in a very musical household and developed a love of music at an early age. Jeff was just 10 years old when he started spinning records at parties using his family’s basement as a training ground for his expert mixing. By the time Jeff had made it to John Bartram High his skills as a DJ had progressed to a level that had him doing shows on the block party/ballroom circuit in West Philadelphia. Jeff rolled with many crews and emcees around Philly until he met Will Smith in 1985. Jeff’s regular MC was away so Will stepped on the mic and the chemistry was instant. They shared the same kind of humor and hit it off straight away. Some gold albums, pop star 900 numbers and sitcoms followed. Jeff founded the production facility A Touch Of Jazz that also took care of then local talents James Poyser and Vikter Duplaix, sustained the work with Will Smith and released Jill Scott’s seminal debut album. Jazzy Jeff continues to represent the DJ throughout his solo records, mix tapes, and live shows. Here you can listen to the magnificent selector rocking the house live in Las Vegas. Boom, boom, shake the…

Afrika Bambaataa
Zulu Nation, NYC

Afrika Bambaataa is one of the main originators of deejaying, one of hip hop’s godfathers and a founding father of electro funk. Through his co-opting of the street gang called Black Spades into the music and culture-oriented Zulu nation, he is responsible for spreading rap and hip hop culture straight from the Bronx throughout the world. His story includes record collecting, house and block parties, Kool DJ Herc, community centres, b-boys, graffiti and a revolutionary force of youth culture. Speaking of forces: Influenced by George Clinton and all the separate-but-same groups he created, Bam formed the Soul Sonic Force, had an idea for a record revolving around Kraftwerk’s Trans-Europe Express in 1982 and worked it into a gold record with the help of Arthur Baker and others. Today, Bambaataa is still looking for the perfect beat around the globe and keeping the triad of music, graffiti and break dancing alive. Recorded live at Las Vegas’ Rain club. Say Zulu!
